At the Barhalioun Lebanese Australian Society, we are dedicated to alleviating poverty and supporting vulnerable individuals and families in both Australia and Barhalioun, Lebanon. Our work focuses on providing essential services that address immediate needs while empowering communities to achieve long-term stability. Here’s how we make a difference:

Survival Essentials

We believe that no one should have to go without life’s most basic necessities. Our Survival Essentials programme provides food, clothing, shelter, and hygiene packs to those who are homeless or living in poverty. Using food trucks and delivery vans, we distribute these essential items directly to individuals in need across Sydney. In Lebanon, we work with local partners to deliver similar resources, ensuring that those facing hardship receive immediate relief. This programme offers a vital safety net for individuals who struggle with daily survival.

 

Education Support

Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Through our Education Support initiative, we provide funding for accommodation and school fees for children and youth who are homeless or unable to afford their education. In Australia, we work with schools in low socio-economic areas to cover operational costs, including teacher wages and school supplies. By removing the financial barriers to education, we empower young people to stay in school, succeed academically, and build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

 

Energy Assistance

In Barhalioun, Lebanon, access to electricity is a constant challenge due to ongoing economic struggles and infrastructure issues. Our Energy Assistance programme addresses this by supplying generators and fuel to impoverished families, ensuring they have access to electricity for heating, lighting, and maintaining a hygienic living environment. This initiative provides families with a critical resource to improve their quality of life, especially during harsh winters and periods of power shortages.

 

Medical Care

Access to healthcare is a fundamental human right, but for many in Barhalioun, it remains out of reach. Our Medical Care programme supports the elderly and homeless by covering basic medical costs and providing essential pharmaceuticals. We work to ensure that those who cannot afford healthcare receive the treatment and medications they need. By offering this support, we help individuals maintain their health and well-being, giving them the chance to live with dignity and security.
